This 3-1/2-horsepower, 20-inch side-discharge gas mower is a well-made beauty. Tomato-hued and skillfully tooled, this machine was built to do the job and do it for a long time. For a relatively low price, you get a powerful mower with a variety of features. Three settings in the mower deck allow you to adjust the wheels to different heights, though adjustments require that you remove all the wheels and reattach them in the new setting, so it's not an easy flick of a lever--you likely won't be switching settings frequently. Easier is the decision to discharge, bag, or mulch. A flip of the side flap converts the mower from mulch to side discharge, or you can hook up a bag (the 1.6-bushel grass catcher is not included). Tree guards prevent you from injuring tree trunks and shrubbery, the engine is low-emission, and the machine rolls smoothly and maneuvers well. A caveat: assembly of this mower is not for the faint of heart. A well-stocked toolbox is required; without a good supply of wrenches, your lawn will be a jungle before you get the lower handle attached to the upper handle (not to mention attaching the wheels, the blade control handle, and the brake cable). Awesome, Affordable and Durable : Yard Machines 11A-020B000 20-Inch 148cc Briggs & Stratton 300 Series Mulch/Side Discharge Gas Powered Push Lawn Mower
This mower should be in one of those "set it and forget it" infomertials. Before purchasing this mower you should understand its limitations. It has no throttle control, the handle isn't adjustable, and the wheels have to be fully removed to adjust the height. It runs at a fixed speed which is more than adequate. The only way to shut it down is to issue the brake handle. If you're much taller than 6 feet the handle may be too low to comfortably push it. I set the wheels in the middle position and don't intend on ever adjusting them again. If you have a need to adjust the wheels or handle on your mower, think twice before you buy this one. Assembly was a easy 45 tiny affair. Tools required were a set of sockets and a pair of RoboGrip pliers. A 20oz bottle of oil is included. Pour in the entire bottle and the machine will be filled to the literal, level. It started on the 2nd pull. The 3.5 horsepower machine had plentifulness of power to mow my 3-5" grass that was on the damp side. The deck is made of steel rather than plastic or aluminum so its unlikely to crack.
The goods report is erroneous. This mower is strictly side discharge. It has no mechanism to switch to mulching. I brought this to Amazon's concentration and they did offer to take the mower back at their expense. I'm happy sufficient with the mower to keep it. It does absolutely have a mulching blade so it doesn't produce as many clippings as expected. I'd say about half of it gets mulched.
